About Fint
"The best way to predict the future is to create it" - Abraham Lincoln
The Internet went mainstream about 40 years ago, and democratised information dissemination and communication globally. The Internet disrupted traditional industries and paved the way for new business models and multi-billion-dollar industries (e-commerce, payments, and others) that emerged on the foundations of seamless connectivity and information exchange.
Despite advancements in technology, accounting and finance teams are stuck in the past, and still dominated by manual processes, spreadsheets, and bloated teams.
Few root causes:
Siloed systems
Accounting teams operate on disintegrated, fragmented, and siloed systems. Billing software at the counters doesn't talk to ERPs, and ERPs don't speak to banking systems, and the list goes on.
Messy and unstructured data
Every day, accounting teams receive messy and unstructured data in different formats (Excel, Word, PDF, etc) from multiple sources (physical paper, email, data drives, third-party websites, WhatsApp, etc.) and struggle with processing fragmented data.
Compliance burden
Globally, regulatory and taxation requirements are evolving and becoming more complex. In the US, there are 12,000 jurisdictions for Sales Tax, with varied compliance requirements as per local state laws. Accounting teams spend a significant amount of time gathering information and filing tax and other compliance returns periodically.
ERP, a necessary devil
ERPs have been around for decades, they host tons of structured information, but they provide limited intelligence or insights. Finance teams rely on bolt-on applications to extract information from these ERPs and process information on spreadsheets. Additionally, ERPs are challenging to integrate and often provide a poor user experience due to their clunky interfaces.
Talent crunch
75% of US CPAs are about to retire in the next 10 to 15 years. Enrolment of new students (Gen Z) in accounting and CPA courses has been declining for years. This severe talent crunch is creating pressure on existing teams, resulting in increased workload.
It is time to build the future of finance with an integrated and intelligent system. Finance and accounting teams deserve their time for more meaningful tasks and a delightful user experience.
